Day in the Forge #19

Keep Your Word

August 9, 2026 · Matthew 5:37 · Daily Devotional for Men
"But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’" — Matthew 5:37

A man’s character is revealed in the promises no one forces him to keep.

It is easy to make commitments when emotion is high. The harder part is following through when you are tired, busy, distracted, or no longer feel like doing what you said you would do.

Leadership starts with credibility. Your family needs to know your words mean something. Your brothers need to know they can depend on you. Your own soul needs the discipline of becoming a man who does not constantly negotiate with himself.

You will not keep every promise perfectly. When you miss one, own it quickly. Apologize. Correct it. Then get back to the work of becoming dependable.

Integrity is not built through big speeches. It is built when your actions repeatedly agree with your words.

Reflection

Where have my actions stopped matching something I said I would do?

Prayer

God, make me a man whose words can be trusted. Give me discipline to follow through, humility to admit when I fail, and wisdom not to make promises carelessly. Help my life reflect faithfulness in the things both seen and unseen. Amen.

Today's Challenge

Think of one commitment you have made to God, your family, a friend, or yourself that you have allowed to slip. Take one concrete action today to honor it again.

Stay in the Fight. ⚒️

Keep walking through the fire

Forged by Fire is a book about the cost of isolation and the power of brotherhood. If this hit something, the book goes further.
