Day in the Forge #22

Before the Day Owns You

August 12, 2026 · Psalm 5:3 · Daily Devotional for Men
"In the morning, Yahweh, you will hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly." — Psalm 5:3

If you do not decide what gets your attention, something else will decide for you.

The phone starts buzzing. Work starts calling. Problems start presenting themselves. Before long, you can spend an entire day reacting to everyone else’s priorities and never stop long enough to ask God what deserves yours.

Discipline is not only about doing more. Sometimes it is about refusing to begin the day distracted.

A few quiet minutes with God will not guarantee an easy day. They can change the man who walks into it. You remember who you belong to before your title, responsibilities, failures, or pressures start trying to define you.

Your family deserves more than a man controlled by the loudest demand. Your team deserves a leader who can respond instead of constantly react. And you need something deeper than your own strength to lead either one well.

Give God the first word before the world gets the next hundred.

Reflection

What usually gets the first and best part of my attention, and what is that shaping me into?

Prayer

God, help me begin with You instead of beginning with distraction. Give me wisdom for what matters, discipline for what needs to be done, and peace about what can wait. Lead me today so I can lead others well. Amen.

Today's Challenge

Before checking social media, news, or anything that can wait, spend ten uninterrupted minutes with God. Read Scripture, pray, and identify the one thing you believe requires your faithfulness today.

Stay in the Fight. ⚒️

Keep walking through the fire

Forged by Fire is a book about the cost of isolation and the power of brotherhood. If this hit something, the book goes further.
